Puppy behaviour tip #2

Chewing and destructive behaviour, playbiting, messing, jumping are just some of the problems you may come across when owning a puppy; but this is all part and parcel of coming to have a dog.

However you do not have to put up with these; they can be trained out of the dog with a little patience.

Reasons why:

Chewing/destructive behaviour:
-Poor nutrition or inadequate food provisions
-Presence of mice or other small mammals in the walls or flooring
-Spilled food on carpet or furniture
-Insufficient or uninteresting toys
-Escape behavior

Play Biting:
-Teasing and rough play (i.e., encouraging pup to bite)
-Long confinement periods, especially in small enclosures
-Excited greetings by visitors or family members

Messing:
-Lack of house training
-Walks more often

Jumping:
-Need for training
-Allowed by owners, due to excitement
