Excessive barking
1. Correcting the behaviour and maintaining
- When your dog is barking, tell them to stop, using a command, sound or a look, your dog may pause their barking and then when you go to leave continue,
Patience. Again repeat the previous process until your dog submits to your demands.
2. Stay Calm!
- Persistant barking is irritating, but there is usually a cause behind it and it is merely your dog expressing this, do not get angry at your dog.
Dogs will mirror your energy, meaning if your frustrated they will be and this may increase bad behaviours and confuse the dog as to how to behave.
3. Figure it out.
- Find out what it is your dog is barking at, is it a specific person, object, place?
Use your own mental and physical calm energy to express to your dog that that problem is yours and then cannot cross it or have it as theirs, it may take time but patience and persistance is key.
4. Exersise!
- Dogs need to be stimulated, they have a lot of energy and are intelligent animals that need to be released, make sure they are walked and stimulated mentally every day, whether it just be playing a simple fetch game,
Barking can be due to pent up energy that needs to be supressed in different ways.
5. Help.
If nothing you can do is helping, call in some professional help, when owning a dog it is like bringing up a child, you need to fend for them and look after them in any way they need.
