Separation Anxiety

Ever had the sad eyes of your dog and instantly melted and gave into whatever it is they wanted?
Sorry to say it, but don't, giving in to your dogs every need can lead to separation anxiety and letting them think they are the leader of the pack and not you.
Which could result in things like ...

And a lot of guilty faces.

Separation anxiety is basically the irrational fear of being away from the owner or simply being left alone.
There are many causes for this disease, for example, dogs that have previously being abandoned, abused or neglected, dogs that have being babied from puppies and are not used to their owner being away from them, a change in routine, such as, if your job changes hours and the dog is not used to this, this could cause them to act out and develop separation anxiety.

Symptoms of separation anxiety:

- Chewing/destroying objects around the house
- Urinating/excreting in the house
- Barking and Howling
- Escaping or trying to excape
- Pacing

There are certain programmes and practices you can do which will help you and your dog get through this mental state.
A good website i've found which helps explain, teach and help you with this is a charity called ASPCA.
